El Greco Drive will close at Ronele Drive as early as 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, for South Hillsborough Pipeline construction, according to a project announcement posted Sept. 28.

The closure is expected to last about one week, weather permitting.

Ronele Drive will also remain closed to through traffic while open-trench pipeline installation continues east toward John Moore Road. That work is expected to last about two months from the Sept. 28 announcement, or roughly through late November.

Tampa Bay Water is building the 26-mile South Hillsborough Pipeline to carry drinking water to south-central Hillsborough County. Once complete, it will be able to move up to 65 million gallons a day.

Detours and access for Ronele Drive residents

Residents on Ronele Drive west of El Greco Drive can reach their homes from South Kings Avenue. Those east of El Greco Drive can use John Moore Road. Local access to El Greco Drive itself will be maintained from John Moore Road.

Visitors to the Rivard-Simmons Rotary Event Center can still reach the center's Kings Avenue entrance from northbound South Kings Avenue. The Ronele entrance can be reached by turning from northbound South Kings Avenue onto Ronele Drive.

Crews working six days a week

Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Nearby South Kings Avenue lane closure

The closure is part of a broader pattern of roadwork in the area. A lane closure on the southbound side of South Kings Avenue, from just south of Ronele Drive to Dali Drive, began Sept. 8 for pipeline work on the Buckhorn Creek bridge barrier wall, according to a separate project notice. That closure was expected to last about four weeks.
