Hillsborough County Public Schools is enrolling children in a limited number of free full-day Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) seats at select schools for the 2026–2027 school year.

The district announced Oct. 14 that eligible families will pay no wraparound or extended-day fees. The district said the free full-day option is funded by the voter-approved millage referendum.

Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy, a K–8 magnet school led by Principal Dr. Dustin Robinson, is among the sites listing openings. Apollo Beach and Ruskin families should check the district's website for participating schools in their area.

To qualify, children must be Florida residents who turned 4 on or before Sept. 1, 2026. Families first need to obtain a VPK Certificate of Eligibility through the Florida Early Learning Family Portal, then begin the district's enrollment process.

The district said spaces are limited but did not specify how many seats remain or when enrollment closes.
