Apollo's Bistro, a restaurant and wine bar at 6520 Richies Way in Apollo Beach, is drawing fresh attention after the South Shore Circle newsletter spotlighted the off-the-beaten-path spot in its Sept. 4 edition.

The restaurant serves modern comfort food. Burgers, steaks, seafood, pasta and flatbreads anchor the menu, with the French Dip, Seafood Risotto and loaded Bistro Chips among the dishes the newsletter highlighted.

Beyond the dining room, Apollo's Bistro runs an on-site golf simulator with leagues and tournaments, according to the restaurant's website. The bar stocks local beers on tap and a rotating wine list.

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and accepts online reservations. Private party bookings and catering are also available. A National Cheeseburger Day promotion is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18.

Ruskin's Ice Age dig unearthed 20,000 fossils near Cockroach Bay

In July 1983, self-taught paleontologist Frank Garcia found fossil bones exposed by a dragline at the Leisey Shell Pit near Cockroach Bay in Ruskin, leading to a 1984 excavation that recovered more than 20,000 Ice Age specimens representing 203 species, with the legacy preserved at a historical marker on Mammoth Trail and the free Paleo Preserve Fossil Museum at Camp Bayou.
