More than 100 vendors, four food trucks and live music will fill the Lake Wimauma Convention Center on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the Artisan Summer Market South Shore returns for what organizer Jennifer McCafferty called her "last hurrah."

McCafferty, who has run Jen's Markets & Events since 2009, told the Observer News she is retiring from event organizing to care for her husband, Dan, who has advancing Parkinson's disease. The Aug. 29 market will be the final event she produces after 17 years of staging markets across Hillsborough, Pinellas and Manatee counties.

At its peak, Jen's Markets operated seven events across the three counties. McCafferty's last full South Shore market was held in Apollo Beach in early 2025.

The free indoor event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5408 State Road 674, Wimauma. Last year's market drew an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 attendees.

Several Apollo Beach and Ruskin-area businesses are among the service vendors, including Apollo Beach Dentistry, Power Home Remodeling and Floor & Décor. Product vendors will sell baked goods, sourdough breads, candles, leather goods, boutique apparel, woodworking and local raw honey from Sam's Honey Bees. Four food trucks will serve outside: The Wing Wagon, Brandon BBQ, Quail Run Coffee and Brooklyn Ice.

Singer-songwriter Frank "The Geezer" Hughlett, known locally for acoustic covers of classic hits, will provide live entertainment.

Fundraiser for Kittie Corral

Proceeds benefit Kittie Corral, a Wimauma-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that rescues and rehomes 75 to 100 cats and kittens each year. The organization, founded by Angelite Gallinat, currently fosters about 20 cats and kittens and eight medically needy cats, along with a rescue dog and a medically needy dog.

"We are desperate for financial support," Gallinat told the Observer News. "Our accounts have been drained by these animals. Every penny we net from our fundraisers goes directly toward animal care."

Kittie Corral also supports 45 cats and 26 dogs whose owners live in poverty. Residents can drop off unopened pet food at bins at Sun City Center Security Patrol, Bogg's Jewelry or Pet Supermarket; the latter two also accept cash donations.

McCafferty's next chapter

After the Aug. 29 market, McCafferty plans to sell herbs and seasoning salts from Happy Hoe Farm, the couple's two-acre property in Macon, Ga., and write a cookbook.
