The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a Lutz man Monday after finding more than 1,000 child sexual abuse files on a device in his home.

Charles Price, 61, faces three felony charges after HCSO's Internet Predators Unit and SWAT team served a court-authorized search warrant at his residence, according to a sheriff's office press release.

HCSO patrols unincorporated Hillsborough County, including the Apollo Beach and Ruskin areas, WFLA reported. The same Internet Predators Unit that serves those communities led the Price investigation.

The files depicted juvenile victims between the ages of 5 and 12, the sheriff's office said. Investigators also identified online activity tied to the device involving the transmission and trading of the material.

Tip to national center launched the probe

The case began July 27 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTipline report flagging the upload of child sexual abuse material, according to the sheriff's office. Detectives traced the activity to a Lutz residence and identified Price as the suspect.

Nearly two months later, on Sept. 14, the Internet Predators Unit and SWAT team executed the search warrant at Price's home.

Price faces three separate felony counts

Price was charged with solicitation or possession of child sexual abuse material involving 10 or more images, unlawful use of a two-way communications device and obstruction of service or execution of a search warrant.

The HCSO press release lists the primary child sexual abuse material charge with a notation of "x1000." It is not clear from available records whether that reflects 1,000 separate counts or a single charge referencing the number of files recovered.

"Our detectives will continue to pursue anyone who victimizes children, and we will do everything in our power to protect the most vulnerable members of our community," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

No court date or bond has been set

The investigation remains open. No bond amount, booking details or next court date has been publicly reported. The HCSO Public Affairs Office said future updates would come from that office.
