Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies found and rescued a missing Tennessee teenager at a Hillsborough County address on Tuesday, July 28, reuniting her with her mother the same day. About 24 hours later, Texas state troopers pulled over a Mexico-bound bus and arrested the suspect.

The case unfolded within the jurisdiction that covers Apollo Beach and Ruskin, though the sheriff's office did not disclose the specific address where the teen was located.

Edgar Perez Hernandez, 23, now faces 10 felony charges including four counts of sexual battery, according to the HCSO.

The sheriff's office said it joined the Tennessee missing-person investigation on July 28 after learning the teen may have been brought to the Tampa Bay area. Investigators identified a suspect vehicle and spoke with its registered owner, who told them the truck was mostly driven by his brother's son, Perez Hernandez. That family connection gave detectives both a name and a Hillsborough County address where the truck was believed to be parked.

When deputies arrived, they learned Perez Hernandez had been seen at the home with the teen. Both had already left. HCSO's Special Victims Section then joined the case, WFLA reported. Detectives located and recovered the teen later that same day. The sheriff's office did not disclose how or where she was found.

During interviews, the teen told investigators she had been sexually abused by Perez Hernandez multiple times across multiple states while traveling from Tennessee to Florida, including incidents that allegedly occurred in Hillsborough County.

The search for Perez Hernandez continued overnight. On Wednesday, July 29, detectives received information that he planned to flee to Mexico by bus. The Texas Department of Public Safety located the bus, conducted a traffic stop, and took Perez Hernandez into custody without incident.

The full list of charges includes interference with child custody, lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious conduct, use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts, traveling to meet a minor after use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, and four counts of sexual battery.

"Because of the determination of our detectives and the strong partnerships we have with agencies across the country, this young victim was safely recovered before the suspect could escape," Sheriff Chad Chronister said Thursday, July 30.

No extradition date or court appearance has been announced. The sheriff's office has not released the teen's age or name, consistent with standard practice for juvenile victims of sexual crimes.
