More than 100 people were arrested during a two-month law enforcement operation targeting human trafficking, online exploitation and child sex offenses across Hillsborough County, Sheriff Chad Chronister and Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Officials Detail Results at Tampa Press Conference

The operation, dubbed "Operation Relentless Summer," also led to the recovery of human trafficking victims, according to WTSP. Officials held a press conference at 10 a.m. in Tampa to detail the results. A full breakdown of charges and victim information had not been released as of the afternoon of Aug. 12.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated communities including Apollo Beach and Ruskin, meaning the operation's enforcement area covers South Shore neighborhoods directly.

Operation Relentless Summer is the latest in a series of large-scale anti-trafficking operations by the sheriff's office's Human Trafficking Section and Internet Predator Unit. In a separate operation that ran from Jan. 1 through Feb. 6, the same units arrested 89 people and filed more than 1,200 felony charges. That earlier sweep rescued a 2-year-old child and a missing 17-year-old girl who was being exploited for commercial sex, according to Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

"If you are using a hotel room, a chat app, or a fake profile to pursue a child, we are there," Chronister said on March 3 when announcing that earlier operation's results. "Our detectives will follow the digital trail all the way to your door."

Victims rescued in the January-February operation received support services from Selah Freedom and One More Child, two nonprofits that work with trafficking survivors.

The new operation's 100-plus arrests surpass that earlier sweep's total, continuing what officials describe as an aggressive posture against trafficking and child exploitation in the county.

Local Impact and Charge Details Still Pending

Officials have not confirmed whether any of the arrests or rescues in Operation Relentless Summer involved Apollo Beach or Ruskin residents specifically. The exact two-month window of the operation has also not been disclosed publicly.

Additional details, including a breakdown of charges and information about rescued victims, are expected Thursday, Aug. 13.
