Lennard and East Bay both travel today for Week 3 games against opponents that opened the season with winning records and high-scoring offenses.

The Longhorns (1-1) visit St. Petersburg Catholic (1-1) at 7 p.m. The East Bay Indians (2-0) head to Gibbs (1-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Lennard's defense braces for Barons' high-volume passing attack

Lennard bounced back from a 17-7 loss at Armwood with a 41-20 win over Morgan, and the Longhorns now face a Barons squad that went 12-1 in 2025. St. Petersburg Catholic opened this season by beating Gibbs 41-26 before falling 48-39 at Tampa Catholic.

The matchup pits Lennard's secondary against an area-leading passing attack. Barons senior quarterback Chase Burrill has thrown for 702 yards through two games, completing 43 of 65 attempts with eight touchdowns, according to Suncoast Preps. Receivers Shrodderick Pritchett Jr. (13 catches, 272 yards, three touchdowns) and sophomore Elijah Shorter (14 receptions, 220 yards, four scores) give Burrill two proven targets. Running back Larry Christian has added 279 yards and four touchdowns on 44 carries. The Barons have scored 80 points in two games.

Lennard's answer starts up front. Defensive lineman Zyion Hall has five tackles for loss and three sacks through two games. In the secondary, Robert Gibbons and Bryce Herald have combined for 23 tackles, and Division I commit Mekhi Williams rounds out the group.

On offense, senior quarterback Antonio Balaguer, a Sumner transfer, has thrown for 361 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 106 yards and a score. Junior receiver Chayse Brown, a Florida State commit, leads Lennard's pass-catchers with seven catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Fourth-year head coach KB Belton told the Osprey Observer in an Aug. 19 preseason preview that the playoff push drives his team: "Now we want to go deeper in the playoffs … They know how to win football games. Now it's, 'Can we continue to win and win playoff games?' I think that's been the motivator."

East Bay's shutout defense looks to extend scoreless streak at Gibbs

East Bay's defense has not allowed a point in regulation through two games. The Indians blanked Chamberlain 35-0 on the road in Week 2 after opening with a win over Riverview, according to the Observer News.

That defense is no accident. Second-year head coach DeAndra Simmons described his philosophy in an Aug. 19 Osprey Observer preseason preview: "I've laid my hat on the 'East Bay Way,' just a blue-collar approach … We are going to hit you in the mouth on defense …"

Senior linebacker Dorian Edwards anchors the unit. Seniors Michael Walker, Shawn Daniels and Marquis Thornton patrol the secondary.

Junior quarterback Jeremiah Argo threw for 116 yards and scored a rushing touchdown against Chamberlain. Receiver Carse Biggerstaff led the passing game with 74 yards and a touchdown, while running backs Aric Person and Preston Cooper combined for nearly 90 yards on the ground.

Gibbs enters at 1-1 after losing to St. Petersburg Catholic 41-26 in its opener and shutting out Osceola 30-0 in Week 2.

South Shore rivals meet again in three weeks

Both teams play again Thursday. Lennard hosts Newsome while East Bay travels to Hillsborough. The two South Shore rivals then meet Sept. 18, when Lennard visits East Bay.
