A rock-parody comedy show at the Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin will raise money and supplies for C.A.R.E., the no-kill animal shelter down the road.

Rock & Roll for Rescue, featuring comedian Jack Willhite, takes the stage Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. at 101 First Ave. NE. Tickets are $25. The Firehouse Cultural Center's event page lists limited seats remaining.

Willhite, a Virginia native who has spent 20 years performing roughly 100 shows a year at theaters nationwide, delivers a 90-minute set of high-energy parodies of classic rock acts, the Observer News reported. The lineup may include send-ups of AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, ZZ Top, Prince, Bon Jovi and Billy Idol. Willhite performs with guitars, amps, costumes and props. The show is geared toward teens and adults.

Beth Stein, director of operations at the Firehouse Cultural Center, said the partnership benefits all three parties. Stein also serves on C.A.R.E.'s board of directors, according to the shelter's newsletter.

"Jack has a great venue; C.A.R.E. has the opportunity to raise funds, collect supplies and share information," Stein told the Observer News, adding the show is likely to sell out.

C.A.R.E. (Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort) will set up a donation station at the door. The shelter is asking for paper towels, bleach, disinfectant wipes, dog or cat toys, Royal Canin pet food and pet-supply gift cards. Cash donations go toward medical expenses for animals in the shelter's care. Other brands of pet food can also be dropped off for C.A.R.E.'s public food shack, which helps residents in need keep their pets.

The shelter, located at 1528 27th St. SE in Ruskin, receives no government funding. It relies on donations, adoption fees, fundraisers and grants. C.A.R.E. broke ground on a new facility in June.
