Children can explore a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue engine while adults can try their hand at embroidery during two free October programs at the Ruskin Branch Library.
The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative announced the events as part of its October programming.
Both programs will be held at the Ruskin Branch Library, 26 Dickman Drive SE.
Firefighters bring engine to library
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will visit the library from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19.
The program gives children a chance to see a fire engine and its equipment up close. Firefighters will demonstrate bunker gear and air packs while talking about their work in the community.
Children will also learn about home escape plans and other fire-safety topics.
Registration is recommended.
The library system is offering the same program at the Arthenia L. Joyner University Area Community Library on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Adults can make embroidered cards
Adults can learn basic embroidery techniques while making a patriotic greeting card from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
The "Hand-Embroidered Greeting Cards: America's 250th Edition" workshop is designed for beginners, and all supplies will be provided.
Participants will also learn about the history of greeting cards in the United States.
The workshop is part of a series being offered at Hillsborough County libraries in connection with the nation's 250th anniversary.
Registration is recommended.
Residents can browse the full event calendar and register at HCPLC.org under "Events & Classes" or call 813-273-3652.
