A Ruskin couple with nearly 50 years of broadcasting experience has opened a studio dedicated to converting aging VHS tapes, film reels, and family photographs into digital formats before they deteriorate beyond rescue.
Paul and Debi Luke launched Home Video Studio – Apollo Beach in 2025 from their home at 912 Seagrape Drive in Ruskin. The appointment-based business serves customers across Hillsborough, Manatee, and Sarasota counties, handling everything from consumer VHS and Super 8 film to professional broadcast formats like 3/4-inch U-matic and Betacam.
"Anyone can transfer a tape," Paul Luke told the Observer News. "Our passion is helping families preserve their memories, tell their stories and create something meaningful that can be shared with children, grandchildren and future generations."
Paul Luke started his career as a photojournalist traveling the South, then spent nearly 25 years managing photographers and videographers at a federal agency studio in Washington, D.C. He's also a longtime ham radio operator. Debi Luke's background is in nonprofit leadership and conservation; she handles the studio's community outreach and marketing.
The studio operates under a national brand-licensing model through Home Video Studio, a network founded in 1991 and headquartered in Indianapolis. Each location is independently owned.
Beyond basic tape transfers, the Lukes offer video editing, photo restoration, sports highlight reels, personalized wedding videos, family legacy productions, and memorial tributes. Finished projects can be delivered on USB drives, DVDs, or through a cloud-based platform the company calls Digital Video Archive, which streams personal videos on smart TVs, phones, and tablets.
The business also handles professional broadcast formats that mail-order transfer services typically cannot, according to the studio's Greater SouthShore Chamber of Commerce listing. The Lukes joined the chamber as members.
