Local shoppers can browse handmade goods and artisan products at Ruskin Fresh Market on Sept. 6, when the Big Bend Market brings its monthly indoor vendor market to 2619 14th Ave. SE in Ruskin.

The market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features local makers selling handmade products and unique items. Vendor space is full, with organizers maintaining a waitlist, according to the Osprey Observer.

Handmade goods take priority in vendor selection

The Big Bend Market, which organizes monthly vendor events in Riverview, Ruskin and Gibsonton, gives priority to handmade items and products created by local makers and artists. Produce vendors, multilevel marketing businesses and direct-sales companies are not accepted.

Vendors are selected based on product quality, presentation, social media engagement and their ability to help promote the event. Those interested in future markets can find information and applications through Instagram at @thebigbendmarket.

A family market with deep Ruskin roots

Ruskin Fresh Market, the host venue, was opened by siblings Nicole and David Ferrera in April 2024. Both in their 20s, the Ferreras operate the market out of part of their father's tomato repacking warehouse on 14th Avenue.

"My dad has worked in produce his whole life. My brother and I co-own this store, and we have both grown up in produce, helping him farm, as well as repacking," Nicole Ferrera told Tampa Bay 28 in November 2025, describing the family roots behind the market.

The Ferrera family has deep ties to Ruskin's agricultural industry. Beyond the vendor markets, the store carries Amish jams, pretzels and chips, local Ruskin honey, milk and cheese, and locally sourced grass-fed beef.

The monthly vendor markets at Ruskin Fresh Market support small local businesses. The Sept. 6 event is part of a growing effort to create regular gathering places for shoppers and makers throughout the SouthShore area.
