A 57-year-old Ruskin man wearing a Superman costume was arrested and charged after deputies said he broke into a boat and stole power tools from behind a homeowner's residence.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded Saturday, July 25, after a boat owner in Ruskin reported someone had broken into the cabin of a boat anchored directly behind the owner's home and taken several power tools. Investigators identified James Tidwell, a convicted felon, as the suspect, according to the agency's official Facebook post.

Tidwell confessed, the sheriff's office said.

He was arrested Sunday, July 26, according to FOX 13, and charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, a third-degree felony under Florida law, and first-degree petit theft, which involves property valued between $100 and $750. He was released on bond, according to WTSP.

The sheriff's office shared body-camera footage Wednesday showing deputies confronting Tidwell while he was still dressed in the full Superman costume. The agency opened its Facebook post with a nod to the iconic catchphrase: "It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman?"
