Students at Shaw Elementary School are now running their own credit union branch.

The school partnered with Suncoast Credit Union to open what Hillsborough County Public Schools announced is the first student-run credit union branch in the district. The grand opening took place Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The branch operates every Tuesday inside the school. Students work as tellers, gaining hands-on banking experience. Families can access financial education resources, and students can open their own Suncoast Credit Union accounts.

Suncoast Credit Union, headquartered in Tampa, is Florida's largest credit union. The institution said on X on Sept. 30 that it was "so thrilled to be open and connecting with all these students."

The branch is open to Shaw Elementary students and families each Tuesday during the school year.
